This Human Trafficking Prevention Month, our staff have pulled together lists of resources to help increase understanding of the commercial sexual exploitation of children (CSEC). Each week, we will be rounding up resources. This week we’ve selected 5 powerful films and podcasts for you to watch and listen to.  

Ending Exploitation - My Life My Choice Podcast

With the help of the brilliant radio and podcast producer, Stephen Smith, our very own Audrey Morrissey, Co-Executive Director of My Life My Choice, spent time in 2022 sitting down with survivors and allies on our staff to have candid conversations about what the commercial sexual exploitations of children (CSEC) looks like today and what can be done to finally put an end to it. 

The Ugly Truth About The Girl Next Door: 

The Ugly Truth About The Girl Next Door tells the story of a suburban, middle-class girl who was trafficked and sexually exploited for decades starting even before the age of 6 years old 

Very Young Girls:

This is the story of a group of girls in New York City who were prostituted as early as the age of 12. They have found safe haven at GEMS, where they receive love and guidance as they try to heal and find a new direction in their young lives.

Surviving R Kelly (Netflix):

This documentary series reveals young women emerging from the shadows and uniting their voices against singer R. Kelly. Celebrated as one of the greatest R&B singers of all time, R. Kelly's career has been plagued with rumors of abuse, pedophilia, and predatory behavior toward women. Now, survivors are stepping forward to detail new allegations about his physical, mental, and sexual abuse. 

Murder to Mercy Cyntoia Brown Story (Netflix):

The documentary, which debuts on Netflix on April 29, covers Brown-Long’s road from a teenager who was sex-trafficked and then tried in court as an adult to a grown woman being freed from prison.
