A Personal Appeal from a Survivor Mentor

By Delia Vega, Survivor Mentor

We live in a world in which we unfortunately experience depression, trauma, and injustice. My role as a Survivor Mentor allows me to walk with young people as they are seeking belonging, dignity and love. It is an opportunity to offer the young people I serve a nurtured, intentional relationship based on respect and mutual trust.  As you can imagine, it can be very difficult to do as most of the young people I Mentor have never known security and happiness. In fact, betrayal has been a huge part of their story. The young people we serve are in most cases raised in an environment with narratives about being less worthy than others.  I am grateful that I can offer my own experiences as a survivor and as a result am able to break down barriers such as mistrust and alienation.

All thanks to you!  Each time you give, you are contributing to a young person’s path towards finding liberation.  In an ideal world, we would be able to offer Mentorship to all the young people who sit on our waiting list and beyond.  That, however, would require more Mentors and more funding.

I as a Survivor Mentor thank you for your support. It is because of your generosity I am able to walk with young people towards healing their wounds of the past as they discover their own worth and humanness no matter what life has thrown at them.

I thank you!
