Financial Independence
Anna, age 18 has been receiving mentoring and case management services from My Life My Choice for a year and a half. During that time, she has worked really hard to positively change the trajectory of her life. When she was first referred to My Life My Choice, she had a history of going missing from care and there were concerns about substance use and relationships with older men.
Anna’s mentor and case manager worked closely with her during a critical time in her adolescence. Due to several interruptions in their schooling, Anna was at risk of not graduating high school, but with the help of her service team ensuring consistent support in school, she was able to graduate on time. During her senior year, Anna’s case manager helped her write and submit several college applications, and she is now enrolled in a four-year university and pursuing a career in nursing.
In addition to schooling, Anna is focused on her own economic stability. Her case manager supported her in applying, interviewing, and landing a job as well as opening her first checking and savings accounts.
Anna is now attending college, working part time, and is working towards getting her driver's license. She is in a healthy relationship with a person her own age and better understands what healthy relationships look like. Her team shared that she continues to be self-aware and has expressed that she is determined to break the cycle. She has developed a healthy support system with My Life My Choice and continues to advocate for herself and reach out when she needs more support. We are incredibly proud of all the hard work she has accomplished and to be a part of her journey as we watch her go on to thrive.
