My Life My Choice World Cup Response

The World Cup in Massachusetts brings tremendous excitement and unity, but like with other large-scale events, it also brings heightened risks for trafficking and the commercial sexual exploitation of children (CSEC).

We are proud to be part of the state’s coordinated response, which includes measures to facilitate a seamless connection between service providers for both minor and adult victims. In addition, Massachusetts has launched a public awareness campaign and a youth engagement, primary prevention campaign.

As part of this planning, My Life My Choice has increased its capacity to ensure that any child who experiences exploitation receives the services and care they deserve.

What My Life My Choice is doing:

  • Survivor-led emergency response services: Several of our expert Survivor Leaders will be available to provide specialized emergency in-person consultations with minor victims of CSEC.

  • Case consultation: Our Clinical staff and expert trainers are available to receive calls 24 hours a day to be able to provide for consultation with providers and law enforcement working with minor victims.

  • Emergency assistance: We are able to support minor victims with costs related to emergency shelter, food, and clothing once recovered.

  • Survivor Mentoring: Our staff are prepared to provide long-term Survivor Mentoring to young victims long after the crowds leave.

How to get help:

  • If you or a child is in immediate danger, call 911

  • If you or a child is experiencing exploitation, call the National Human Trafficking Hotline at 1-888-373-7888 or text BeFree (233733). You will be connected to local resources in Massachusetts, including My Life My Choice, who can assist with next steps.

  • If you are an organization serving a minor victim and are in need of CSEC consultation, you can contact our team at mlmctraining@jri.org

Exploitation doesn’t just end when the World Cup is over -- its impact will last long after July 19th. My Life My Choice will be here for exploited youth every step of the way, offering immediate support and long-term, survivor-centered care as they begin their journey of healing and growth.
